Athletics Canada announces Pan American Games team

OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced today the team that will compete at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil July 22-29.

Head Coach Les Gramantik on the importance and magnitude of this competition “The Pan American Games are one of the top four International competitions held every four years. With the participation of over 50 countries including perennial powerhouses like the United States and the Caribbean countries, this event will allow us to evaluate the preparedness of our top athletes. With few exceptions, this group of athletes will represent Canada at the end of August at the World Championships in Osaka, which is the remaining big step towards Beijing.”

The track and field team brought home 10 medals at the last Pan American Games. The 2007 edition features two medalists from the 2003 Games, Achraf Tadili will look to defend his title over 800 metres while Perdita Felicien will line in the hopes of upgrading her silver medal. Read full story
